Class Description
In this class, students learn foundational elements for acting for film and television while creating an original short film under the guidance of our instructors. Each class begins with games based in movement and improvisation. Students discover their unique screen presence, articulate the difference between acting for the camera and acting onstage, and build skills for collaboration and improvisation by using physical acting games to invent scenes and characters. There is an invited screening for friends and family during the last class. This class is co-instructed by Emma Sacchetti and Matthew Bretschneider.

*We are pleased to offer a 30% discount for students who register for both Play Creation and Film Project. The discount is applied to both classes. Instructors
Emma Sacchetti (she/her) is a Providence-based improviser, teacher and actor. Emma has been a house team performer with the Providence Improv Guild since 2017. Emma has performed at the Providence Fringe Festival, Wilbury Theater Group, and Burbage Theater Company. Most recently, she performed in One Providence Place, the first and only original musical about the Providence Place Mall! Emma earned her BFA in Theater and BA in Writing and Rhetoric from University of Rhode Island. She is happy to be working with the Studio Playground team!
Matthew Bretschneider (he/him) is Artistic Director of Studio Playground and an Adjunct Professor at Boston University. He has performed with the Huntington Theatre Company, The Flea Theater, Theatre Row, The New Ohio, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Kitchen Theatre Company, and Boston Playwrights’ Theatre. Television Credits include Law & Order: SVU and The Path. Matthew received his MSW from Rhode Island College School of Social Work and received a BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Matthew has taught physical theater for Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, Trinity Repertory Company, Walnut Hill School for the Arts, Rhode Island College, University of Rhode Island, and Suffolk University.
COVID-19 Safey Guidelines - Youth Classes
Please note this policy is subject to change. Here is our protocol as of 11/08/24:
Wearing a mask is optional for staff and students. Class size is limited. Staff keep daily attendance records for contact tracing, provide hand sanitizer, and encourage hand hygiene.
Any student who has a fever or who is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 is advised not attend class.
