Camp FAQ’s
Does my child need prior acting experience?
Our theatre camp is intended for all levels of experience. Whether this is your child’s first acting class or they have previous experience, our program fosters individual growth and develops at the pace of each group. Studio Playground integrates core concepts in social emotional learning with quality theatre education. We strive to create an environment in which all students feel welcome and accepted.
Are students divided by age group?
Yes, students are divided into small groups based on age which are consistent throughout the week. There are also larger camp activities that involve students working with members of other groups.
What safety precautions are you taking?
Our staff includes highly professional teachers and counselors who provide a safe and supportive environment. Students are encouraged to drink water and apply sunscreen throughout the day. Please follow the link below to read about our COVID-19 Safey Policy: FAQs
Will there be relaxed camp activities too?
Absolutely! In addition to playing theater games and learning fundamentals skills for acting, students will have the option to participate in nature walks and recreational activities at planned times throughout the day. Lincoln Woods State Park has a swimming area with a beach and lifeguards. Although we will not explore the water during camp, we encourage families to enjoy the water after pickup. The lifeguards are present until 6pm.
Will kids be outside for the entire day?
Yes! We are 100% outdoors. We take precautions with the heat as our students' safety and wellness are our primary concerns. Our reserved pavilions provide large shade covering. We also have use of the park’s indoor restrooms near our pavilion. Camp takes place rain or shine unless there is inclement weather.
Is there a difference between Week 1 and 2 ?
Each week of camp is offered invidually. Students can sign up for multiple weeks. You have the option to sign up for Week 1 or Week 2 when you register for camp. You may also sign up for both weeks if your child would like to attend.
While the structure and activities are similar, each week ends with a performance for friends and family.
What should my child bring to camp?
Safety and wellness are our primary concerns. We ask that each student bring a personal water bottle, snack, and sunscreen. Students should also bring a non-refrigerated lunch. Studio Playground will water throughout the day and coolers to store lunches.
What does the performance consist of?
Each week students work in small groups to create an original show. The performance occurs after pickup on Friday each week. Students determine the theme and content, including characters and narrative, under the experience of our teaching artists. Our staff includes professional actors and passionate teachers who embrace our philosophy of inclusion and play. Each student has a voice in the creative process as our staff fosters collaboration and teamwork within each group.
What is the Craft and Create Program?
The Craft and Create Program gives students the opportunity to explore hands-on crafting projects with an experienced visual artist. Modeled after our Play Creation class, students create props, costumes, and set pieces to bring their original performance to life.
Will there by theme days?
Of course! Theme days will include water day, camp olympics, costume day, and more! We will follow up with details and a schedule of theme days closer to the first day of camp.
What is “Early Drop Off”?
The Early Drop Off Program is designed for parents who need to drop their child off earlier than 9am. Early drop off occurs Monday-Friday, 8am-9am. Our staff will be there to look after your child before the camp day. During early drop off, students will enjoy relaxed activities, including coloring, board games, creative projects, and games.
